My name is Sydni Parker & I was 30 years old when my life changed forever
On April 15, 2023, I suffered a work-related ankle injury after falling from a patio step and severely rolling my ankle, resulting in a Grade IV ankle sprain. At the time, I believed I was facing a painful but temporary setback. I never imagined that this injury would begin a medical journey that would change my life forever.
What started as a severe ankle injury ultimately progressed into multiple surgeries, a serious staph infection, chronic osteomyelitis, repeated hospitalizations, months of wound care, long-term IV antibiotic treatment, and countless medical appointments. Despite my determination to recover and save my leg, my condition continued to deteriorate.
In January 2025, less than two years after my original injury, I underwent a right below-knee amputation. What began as a workplace accident had evolved into a life-changing medical battle that challenged me physically, emotionally, and mentally in ways I never could have imagined.
Throughout my treatment, I experienced situations that left me with many unanswered questions. I often wondered whether my symptoms were fully investigated, whether my infection was recognized and treated early enough, and whether different medical decisions could have changed the outcome. Those questions have remained with me throughout my recovery and continue to shape the purpose of this blog.
This website shares my personal journey through emergency room visits, hospitalizations, podiatry care, wound care, infection, amputation, rehabilitation, and life after limb loss. I will discuss not only the medical challenges I faced, but also the emotional impact of losing a limb, rebuilding my life, and learning how to move forward after a devastating diagnosis.
My goal is not only to tell my story, but also to raise awareness about the importance of patient advocacy, timely diagnosis, and comprehensive medical care. I hope to encourage others to ask questions, seek second opinions when necessary, and trust their instincts when something does not feel right. Patients know their bodies, and when recovery is not progressing as expected, they deserve answers.
Most importantly, I want this blog to serve as a source of support, education, and hope for individuals facing limb loss, chronic illness, complex medical conditions, or difficult healthcare decisions. If my experience helps even one person feel less alone, advocate for themselves more confidently, or obtain the care they need sooner, then sharing my journey will have served a meaningful purpose.
This is my story. These are my experiences. And this is my effort to ensure that something meaningful comes from the challenges I have faced.
